THE VAN & FRESH BOOST ARE HERE!

December 2022– The Amherst Survival Center is delighted to announce that following a successful fundraising campaign, we have purchased a new refrigerated Grocery Delivery van, helping to facilitate the expansion of our Food Pantry operations to include a new Fresh Boost additional shop and delivery.
This refrigerated van means ASC can serve more people and bring additional produce and perishables to all of our grocery delivery participants who need it. This is especially needed now, because more people are turning to the Amherst Survival Center than ever before, even more than during the peaks of the pandemic.
The Center has been working over the last 2.5 years to increase grocery allocations from the Food Pantry, responding to feedback from Pantry participants that they needed more food. In 2019, the Food Pantry provided roughly 5 days’ worth of food per household each month. In 2020, that increased to 8 days’ worth, and then 10 days’ worth of groceries. In order to achieve the goal of two full weeks of food, ASC added a second monthly shop. Many people don’t have the storage space to take two full weeks of food all at once, and shoppers sought more produce, more milk, more eggs, more bread – all healthy and perishable foods that are expensive at the store. In October 2022, the Center’s Food Pantry began offering the additional “Fresh Boost” monthly grocery shop onsite, giving local families access to double the produce and other perishables. Using this new van, the Center will also deliver Fresh Boost to delivery households who want it!
In a recent pantry feedback survey, one shopper shared that “Because of the savings on food, I’m able to pay for [medication].”
“I can hardly buy vegetables at the store…they are too expensive. This extra [produce] delivery will mean I can make healthy meals all month long.” Shared a local senior upon learning about the new Fresh Boost delivery.
THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS DONORS WHO PURCHASED THIS VAN AND SUPPORTED THIS PROGRAM EXPANSION!
