Empty Bowls 2020

Due to increased public health concerns raised by COVID-19, we’ve decided to cancel Empty Bowls.  We made this decision to help ensure the safety and health of all in our community. With so much uncertainty in the coming weeks and months, we are not planning to reschedule Empty Bowls this year.

Empty Bowls has grown to be a beloved community tradition. It brings awareness of the very real local problem of food insecurity, it builds community, and it raises significant funds for our programs, providing free meals, free groceries, free clothing and housewares, free medical care, and community to all who walk through our doors. Thank you for being a part of that!

Empty Bowls would not be possible without a tremendous outpouring of support. Please help us recognize and appreciate the artists, sponsors, and soup donors that were committed to the event.

THANK YOU to all the guests who already purchased tickets and were planning to purchase tickets.  Ticket holders should have received a cancellation notice with next steps. If you didn’t, please contact Lisa Queenin at lisa@amherstsurvival.org.

THANK YOU to all the potters that donated beautiful bowls. Every bowl you donate fills another.

THANK YOU to all the restaurants and venues that were planning to donate delicious soup and salad to the event. They include Amherst College Dining, Amherst Survival Center, Applewood, Atkins Farms, Black Sheep, Blue Heron Restaurant, Harvest Market, Judie’s, Johnny’s Tavern, Lone Wolf, Osteria Vespa, Panera, Smithsonian Cafe, and UMass Dining.

THANK YOU to all our generous business sponsors (see sponsor listing below)

Thank you for your continued support, partnership, and engagement. We look forward to seeing you at Empty Bowls next year, and at other Amherst Survival events in the meantime.

We are humbly accepting donations now, of any amount, in lieu of your attendance at Empty Bowls – as we work diligently to ensure continued access to food for all who need it amidst these very challenging times. We are grappling with a significant loss of this event’s fundraising revenue at the same time as we see our expenses increase- additional cleaning and sanitizing supplies, to-go containers for meals, additional food to meet increased demand. Thank you so much. Now, more than ever, is the time to take care of each other.
