We were scheduled to host our annual Empty Bowls Dinner last year, right as COVID hit. We never thought we’d be in the same position this year, but alas, here we are. Empty Bowls is truly one of those events that is at the heart of our community. We love that so many of you look forward to it each year. We are hopeful we will be together in person in 2022!
So, we are moving forward with the EMPTY BOWLS 2021: COVID EDITION. No bowls. No soup. Just a heartfelt appeal for the community’s help in filling the bowls of our neighbors in need of food.
In past years, the event raised more than $37,000 from ticket sales, local business support, raffle proceeds, and donations made at the event in the form of celebrity waiter tips. Our goal for this year is to raise $15,000 to help sustain our dramatically expanded food and nutrition programs, making sure everyone in our community has the food they need.
How You Can Participate This Year
Empty Bowls 2021: COVID Edition will take place online between March 21-28. We’re asking you to make a donation in lieu of attending Empty Bowls. This year’s event kicks off with a $5,000 Challenge Grant from Greenfield Savings Bank. Your donation will be matched up to $5,000! Cooley Dickson Health Care added a second matching opportunity of up to $2,500!
Your donation of $40 or more will enter you into a drawing for any one of the 26 wonderful prizes, including:
- 10 – $100 gift cards to area restaurants that have contributed soup in the past or donated to the Center during the pandemic, including Atkins Farms, Black Sheep Deli, Blue Heron Restaurant, Bueno y Sano, Hillside Pizza, Jake’s, Johnny’s Tavern, Lone Wolf, Osteria Vespa, and Smithsonian Café. (A community member has generously purchased all of the gift cards, supporting local restaurants and the Center!)
- 10 – beautiful and unique hand thrown bowls donated by local potters,
- 5 – newly released Empty Bowls Aprons,
- and a one-of-a-kind Josh Simpson glass bowl.
Fulls Bowls Sponsor
Because this is a fully virtual event, with no overhead expenses, 100% of proceeds will be used to fill the bowls of our neighbors facing food insecurity in the months ahead.
