Monthly Giving
Monthly Giving
The Amherst Survival Center makes a daily impact on hunger in Hampshire and Franklin Counties. As a sustainer, your monthly gift of $5 or more ensures that nutritious food is always available to children, seniors, and families each month.
Why donate monthly?
It’s an easy and convenient way to give. Set up a recurring gift online and we can update your billing information or change your donation amount at any time. You can also send a check directly or through your bank.
Low effort, big impact. Automatic, recurring donations help us cut our mailing and administrative costs so we can focus on getting nutritious food and services to our neighbors. Your generosity is felt year-round.
Your monthly donation makes an impact:
$5 provides milk to two families for the month.
$24 provides a monthly pantry allocation to a family of 4.
$100 provides a group of seniors a monthly delivery of groceries.

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
If you have a tax-deferred individual retirement account (IRA) and you are age 70 1/2 or older, the IRS requires you to withdraw a certain amount from your IRA each year, even if you don’t want or need the money at that point in time. This is called a required minimum distribution, or RMD, and it increases your total taxable income. However, if the IRA distribution goes directly to a charity, such as the Amherst Survival Center, it is tax-free up to $100,000 per year. The IRS refers to this nontaxable distribution as a qualified charitable distribution, or QCD. A QCD will satisfy your distribution requirement, not incur any tax obligations, and support the work of the Amherst Survival Center all at the same time! Contact the administrator of your IRA to learn more.

Solar Donations
Solar Donations
Thank you for considering a gift of net metering credits to the Amherst Survival Center. Electricity maintains cold storage for our food, heats and cools our facility, runs our dishwasher and computers, and lets participants charge their phones, wash clothes and take hot showers.
With the support of generous donors, the Amherst Survival Center installed solar panels in 2018. These panels are projected to meet approximately 25% of the Center’s electricity needs. We have received donations of net metering credits from Amherst Survival Center supporters since May 2015. Donations of additional net metering credits will assist us in reaching our goal of becoming 100% solar in the future.
Instructions to donate your credits:
As the “host” solar donor, please follow these instructions to donate your credits:
1. Donors must submit a Schedule Z or net metering application to EVERSOURCE. A copy of the Schedule Z form may be found here. The Schedule Z can be changed every six months.
A sample of a completed Schedule Z can be found here.
2. Your donation: Donors indicate what percentage (1-100%) of their future net metering credits will go to the Amherst Survival Center. As excess energy is produced by your solar energy system, we’ll see an adjustment on our bill showing that credits have been applied. (Unfortunately, existing credits cannot be transferred to the Center’s account. Only future credits may be donated as noted on the Schedule Z.)
3. Please contact our Finance Manager, Kara Schnell, at 549-3968 ext 105
(or by email at: kara@amherstsurvival.org) to let us know that you plan to submit a Schedule Z to EVERSOURCE. Kara will provide you with the Center’s EVERSOURCE account number and service address, information needed for the Schedule Z. This also allows the Center to track your donation and ensure its receipt.
4. Share your donation with us. If you would like a tax receipt for your donations, donors will need to share with us the credit amounts that appear on your monthly electric bills. Sharing this information also helps to confirm that your records match what we see on our statements and lets us acknowledge and confirm receipt of your gift.
Download a form with the above information.
For additional information on being a solar donor and donating net metering credits to the Amherst Survival Center, please contact Lev Ben-Ezra by email at lev@amherstsurvival.org or by phone at 413.549.3968 ext 107.
Thank you for sharing your net metering credits with the Amherst Survival Center!
