Are you interested in running a Food Drive?
Thank you for considering the Amherst Survival Center!
First, you should identify where and when you want your drive to take place. If you are hoping to set up a collection area somewhere outside of your own property, you MUST get explicit permission from an appropriate contact. Aside from the necessary permission, these contacts can provide guidance and clarity for expectations. Here are a few examples of locations and contacts to be considered:
- Church or religious organization: discuss with a church administrator
- Classroom or academic office: discuss with teacher/professor
- Storefront: discuss with store owner/manager
- College/university club: discuss with club leader and organize a secure place to store collections with the permission of the university
If you’d like to organize a general drive, you can always use this page of our website as a guide to what is most needed at the ASC.
If you’d like to host a specific kind of drive, here are some simple examples:
- Hygiene drive (toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, face/body wash, etc.)
- Holiday food drive (stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy, baking mix, etc.)
- Pasta dinner drive (pasta/spaghetti, different kinds of sauces, seasonings, etc.)
- Lunchbox drive (snack packs, juice boxes, individually packaged snacks, peanut butter, jelly, etc.)
Because food drives are often much larger than one-off donations, we ask that you contact the ASC in advance before dropping off your drive. Please contact pantry@amherstsurvival.org or call (413) 549-3968 x 104 to find the best time for all of us.
Community food drives are essential to the Amherst Survival Center.
Food drives help us in a major way! Your food drive will:
- Provide food to hundreds of households
- Give our Food Pantry participants unique food items they might not otherwise receive from the Pantry
- Engage the larger community in supporting our neighbors
- Build our community’s awareness of food insecurity
